The Airborne Visible InfraRed Imaging Spectrometer - Next Generation (AVIRIS-NG) is the successor to AVIRIS-C and provides high signal-to-noise ratio imaging spectroscopy measurements in 425 contiguous spectral channels with wavelengths in the solar-reflected spectral range (380-2510 nm) with 5 nm spectral resolution. It has a spatial resolution of 18 meters at 20 kilometer altitude.

AVIRIS-NG started operation in 2012 and was designed to operate aboard NASA’s ER-2, Twin Otter, and B-200 aircraft. The instrument supports applications in many areas, including plant composition and function, geology and soils, greenhouse gas mapping, and calibration of orbital platforms.
