NASA's Airborne Visible InfraRed Imaging Spectrometer - Classic (AVIRIS-C) has been in operation since 1987 and flown on various aircraft platforms, including NASA's ER-2 jet, Twin Otter International's turboprop, Scaled Composites' Proteus, and WB-57. AVIRIS-C is used to identify, measure, and monitor constituents of Earth's surface and atmosphere based on molecular absorption and particle scattering signatures.
