Earth Resources Technology Satellite B (ERTS-B) launched to continue Earth observations that started with Landsat 1. With two Landsats in orbit, scientists could gather even more views of the planet. Renamed Landsat 2 upon entering orbit, it carried the same instruments as Landsat 1. And like Landsat 1, it surpassed its one-year design and collected images for over 7 years.
