Processing PACE and EMIT Data

This tutorial will demonstrate how to preprocess the EMIT and PACE reflectance data so that they can be used together to investigate science questions. Using the emit_tools and pace_tools modules, the data are orthorectified, geolocated, merged where needed, and resampled onto a common grid, enabling direct comparison of observations from the two sensors.

The folium map above highlights the differences in the observation footprints of the two instruments while clearly showing where each EMIT granule falls within its corresponding PACE OCI granule. For the observations on November 14, 2024, the EMIT granules are located near the center of the PACE OCI granule and collectively cover the full extent of the park. In contrast, most of the other EMIT granules lie near the edges of their paired OCI granules.
