Description
This data set (ATL10) contains estimates of sea ice freeboard, calculated using three different approaches. Sea ice leads used to establish the reference sea surface and descriptive statistics used in the height estimates are also provided. The data were acquired by the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) instrument on board the Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) observatory.
Version Description
Added additional freeboard browse images to allow for better qualitative assessment of the product; Fixed a bug that was producing not-a-number (NaN) freeboard values in ATL10 products; Implemented a flag to identify which designated sea surface height (SSH) segments were used to compute reference surfaces; Improved the description of freeboard height in the file metadata; Added a filter prior to sea ice processing that sets upper and lower limits before determining the reference surface. This approach removes outliers that are unreasonable, relative to sea surface height. Separate bounds are used for the Arctic and Antarctic to account for geographic and seasonal dependencies.
