We are in the process of migrating all NASA Earth science data sites into Earthdata from now until end of 2026. Not all NASA Earth science data and resources will appear here until then. Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

Snow in the Pyrenees Mountains
Image captured on 15 December 2019, by the MODIS instrument, aboard the Aqua satellite.
True-color image showing snow in the Pyrenees Mountains, acquired on 15 December 2019 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Instrument, aboard the Aqua satellite.
The image shows snow, in white, covering the mountainous terrain of the Pyrenees Mountains. Slide the bar back and forth in the comparison tool to see the Normalized Snow Difference Index layer from Aqua/MODIS. Areas in pink have high snow index values. Another way in which to differentiate between cloud cover and snow cover (which both appear as white in the true-color imagery), is to view the false-color composite from MODIS Bands 7-2-1, where snow appears in a bright cyan in comparison to the clouds which are white/pale cyan.
