Floating solar or floating photovoltaics (also known as floatovoltaics) are visible in this Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel-2 (HLS) true-color corrected reflectance image of the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Power Park in a reservoir of the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh, India. The HLS image was captured on November 9, 2025, by the Multispectral Imager (MSI) on the Sentinel-2B platform.
Deploying solar panels on water can be beneficial if there is limited land area available, and can possibly limit evaporation and algal growth in the body of water, but can have challenges like higher up-front costs, effects on water quality, and vulnerability to natural events.
