Fires in Central and Western Kalimantan left the island of Borneo shrouded in smoke on August 28, 2026, when the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument aboard the NOAA-20 platform acquired this image. The gray smoke plumes can be seen blowing in a northwesterly direction, compared to surrounding white clouds.
