In 2004, an independent review panel met to discuss the status of NASA ocean color research using the Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS), Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) (aboard the Terra and Aqua platforms) and implications for the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) platform.
