Join us for a short webinar on Exploring Expedited NASA ICESat-2 "Quick Look" Data Products in the Earthdata Cloud.

Date: October 28, 2026

Time: 2:00 p.m. ET

NASA's Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) was launched in September 2018 to measure the height of all surfaces across the globe, with a focus on land ice, sea ice, oceans, water, and vegetation. ICESat-2 carries a photon-counting laser altimeter to measure these surfaces, providing measurements every 70 centimeters along the platform’s ground path at a rate of 10,000 laser pulses per second. NASA’s National Snow and Ice Data Center Distributed Active Archive Center (NSIDC DAAC) distributes ICESat-2 data products in the NASA Earthdata Cloud, and offers an abundance of learning resources for users to visualize, access, and customize each data product.

In this brief and informative walkthrough, users will explore a focused selection of the ATLAS/ICESat-2 "Quick Look" datasets, including sea ice height, land and vegetation height, atmospheric layer properties, sea ice freeboard, and inland water surface elevation. Provided with expedited latency, these ICESat-2 Quick Look datasets become available to users within three days of satellite data collection.

Presenter: Aimée Gibbons is part of the ICESat-2 Project Science Office at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. She supports activities including mission planning, data analyses, and quality evaluation. Aimee has led the Global Geolocated Photon data product (ATL03) since 2021. ATL03 is the primary source of ATLAS data for surface-type specific data products, providing global height data.
