Suomi NPP Recovers from Safe Mode

On August 20, 2022, the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) resumed forward processing and distribution of land data products. Product quality has been confirmed and Suomi NPP VIIRS data products are approved for operational use. Product Area Leads continue to work with the science teams to validate product performance.

Suomi NPP VIIRS data lost between July 26 and August 20, 2022, will not be recoverable.

As of August 29, 2022, NOAA has completed their evaluation and has approved Suomi NPP VIIRS products for operations.
