Description
The DC-8 Meteorological and Navigation Data CPEX-AW dataset is a subset of airborne measurements that include GPS positioning and trajectory data, aircraft orientation, and atmospheric state measurements of temperature, pressure, water vapor, and horizontal winds. These measurements were taken from the NASA DC-8 aircraft during the the Tropical Composition, Cloud, and Climate Coupling (TC4) field campaign. TC4 took place during the boreal summer of 2007, with the primary goal was to better understand the role that the tropical tropopause layer (TTL) plays in the Earth’s climate and atmospheric chemistry by using in situ and remotely sensed products from the ground, balloons, and aircraft with data collected from NASA satellites. TC4 allowed researchers to gain insight into convective transport between the ground and the TLL, and into transport mechanisms across the TTL. Data are available from June 28 through August 10, 2007 in ICARTT-ASCII and PDF formats.
