The S-NPP spacecraft entered a non-nominal state at about 14:50 UTC on July 10, 2026. All science data remains unavailable and will not be recoverable until further notice. All S-NPP Science products were disabled at 01:30 UTC on July 11, 2026, and no products are currently being generated. We will update this post when we have more information.
Update on July 27, 2026: The total anomaly outage lasted from 1148 UTC on July 10 to 0400 UTC on July 17. SNPP data processing is starting now and data from May 1, 2026 (04:00 UTC) onward will be generated using the revised set of look-up-tables provided by the VIIRS Characterization Support Team (VCST).
Update on July 21, 2026: Standard product processing remains on hold until revised calibration lookup tables (LUT) are provided by the VIIRS Calibration/Validation team. At this time, we do not have an estimated resolution date. We will update this notice as soon as the issue is resolved and standard data distribution resumes.
Update on July 17, 2026: The S-NPP satellite was brought back online on July 16, and we have resumed receiving S-NPP data. NRT processing resumed with the granule acquired at 19:48 UTC on July 16, 2026. At this time, users are advised to exercise caution when using S-NPP products. We have not resumed processing in standard production and likely won’t for several days still while we process data for review by instrument Calibration/Validation and QA teams.
