NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has released three Version 1 South Korea Lightning Mapping Array (SKLMA) datasets:
- South Korea Lightning Mapping Array (SKLMA) Solutions V1
- South Korea Lightning Mapping Array Events and Flashes (SKLMAEF) V1
- South Korea Lightning Mapping Array Gridded Data (SKLMAGRIDDED) V1
These datasets provide observations of total lightning activity and support research applications in atmospheric electricity, severe storms, lightning processes, and weather.
The release expands access to SKLMA lightning observations through complementary data products. The solutions dataset provides geolocated lightning source solutions; the events and flashes dataset organizes lightning sources into physical lightning events and flashes; and the gridded dataset provides spatially aggregated lightning information for analysis and visualization. Together, these products support investigations of thunderstorm structure, lightning behavior, lightning validation activities, and broader atmospheric science studies.
The datasets are provided in ASCII and gridded data formats, and they contain South Korea Lightning Mapping Array observations spanning May 11 to October 13, 2023.
