To help users navigate the complexities of integrating diverse Earth science datasets, the Data Systems Evolution team at NASA's Office of Data Science and Informatics (ODSI) at Marshall Space Flight Center incorporated NASA’s Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) and Earthdata Geographic Information Systems (EGIS) mapping services into the Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis (VEDA) platform.

This integration allows users to view all existing data sources on demand from one central location, streamlining access, visualization, and analysis of NASA Earth science data.

Use the interactive above to explore chlorophyll-a concentrations from the Ocean Color Instrument (OCI) aboard NASA’s Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, and ocean Ecosystem (PACE) platform. Open the VEDA dashboard to access the full suite of features.

Looking forward, this work can inform future NASA technology efforts by providing another demonstration of how platforms built with compliance to open standards increases capabilities while also enabling a path away from duplicative, proprietary systems and toward open, cloud-native architectures.
