The release of the Edition 1C product suite was prompted by the discontinuation of the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS5.4.1) reanalysis dataset in July 2024. The Edition 1C uses GMAO’s Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications, Version 2 (MERRA-2) data product over the entire data record.
This product is an hourly, sub-sampled, footprint-level data product of Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) reflected shortwave (SW), emitted longwave (LW), and longwave-channel (LW-chan) radiances and top-of-atmosphere (TOA) fluxes. The product also includes radiances, aerosols, and cloud properties derived from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), co-located on the NOAA-20 satellite, as well as meteorological information from the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO)’s Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications, Version 2 (MERRA-2) data product.
