The Atmospheric Science Data Center has released data from the Airborne Antarctic Ozone Experiment (AAOE) field campaign. AAOE was an international campaign by NASA, NOAA, NSF, the Chemical Manufacturer’s Association, the UK Meteorological Office, and the European Center for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The primary objective of AAOE was to perform a complex study of polar stratospheric clouds and their relation to the late winter and spring ozone loss over Antarctica.
To collect measurements, AAOE used specially instrumented NASA ER-2 and DC-8 aircraft. AAOE took place from August to October 1987, with flights based out of Punta Arenas, Chile.
